Businesses are increasingly paying monthly or annual subscription fees (SaaS) for cloud-based software like Microsoft 365, accounting software, and CRM systems. For the nascent local software industry, revenue is often generated through project fees for the development of custom applications and websites for local businesses.

Finally, the revenue picture is rounded out by IT services and digital advertising. As businesses adopt more complex technologies, the demand for expert assistance grows. This creates a significant revenue stream for IT services companies, who charge professional service fees for tasks such as IT consulting, system integration, network installation, and managed IT support. This is a project-based revenue model that is critical for enabling the adoption of new technology. The other major digital revenue stream is online advertising. As more and more Cambodians spend their time on platforms like Facebook, YouTube, and TikTok, businesses are shifting their marketing budgets from traditional media to digital channels. The revenue generated from advertising on these major social platforms is immense, and it represents a major flow of capital into the digital ecosystem, funding the creators and platforms that capture consumer attention and further fueling the growth of the entire digital economy.
